With a new iPhone device on the horizon, Apple (AAPL) has announced a new deal that will bring the famed mobile device to Japan.
Japan’s NTT DoCoMo will begin carrying the iPhone starting this fall as the firm looks to increase its number of contracts and deliver the long-awaited device to its customers. The deal comes just ahead of the September 10th meeting where Apple will release the details on its latest iPhone model.
On a macro scale, Apple has been trying to expand its reach into global markets for some time now, as the popularity of the iPhone has transcended U.S. borders. This move comes in a long line of others that look to make the tech giant a more global force.
Apple shares were down $3.42, or .69%, at Thursday’s close. The stock is down just over 7% this year.

Crazybboy When you sign up for those two-year mobile service contracts in exchange for a lower price on the latest high-tech phone, you're generally counting on that phone to last as long as your deal. But what if it gets dropped, is stepped on or just won't turn on? Is Your Phone Less Than a Year Old? If you're within the manufacturer's warranty period, you're probably OK. In the U.S., Apple (AAPL) will repair or replace its products if they fail within the first year. In my experience (two dead iPhones and one laptop with a damaged hard drive), a short visit to the Apple Store generally results in either a same-day repair or a brand-new replacement. However, Apple's warranty won't cover cosmetic damage (such as a cracked screen), normal wear and tear, or damage clearly caused by "misuse" (say, dropping the phone in water). Other popular phones, such as Samsung's (SSNLF) Galaxy line, have a similar warranty policy. Older Than a Year? If you're outside the warranty period or the damage is not covered by the manufacturer, but you still have months left on your contract, what to do? You could shell out for a brand-new phone... or check your credit card statement. That's right: If you originally purchased the phone with a credit card, you may very well be covered for an additional year on top of the manufacturer's warranty. American Express (AXP) and Visa (V) Signature cards even cover wear and tear and refurbished items, which are excluded by some cards' policies. Many of these credit card warranties even add a year on to some warranties. Sounds Too Good to Be True... Of course, as with any type of warranty claim, you'll have to provide documentation -- an original receipt, proof of the card you used to purchase the item, a copy of the manufacturer's warranty and a repair estimate are common requirements. If your claim is approved, the company can choose to cover the repair cost or reimburse your original purchase cost. What If the Damage Still Isn't Co

Fast food chains are much in vogue these days since they offer food at comparatively cheap prices as compared to restaurants. Hence, cost-conscious people prefer to walk up to retailers such as Burger King Worldwide (BKW) and McDonald Corporation (MCD) who offer value meals which are pocket friendly. However, there are various other factors, such as weather and consumer confidence, which affect sales at such stores. Burger King Worldwide reported its first quarter numbers last week, which were mixed.

Next, IBM (NYSE: IBM ) shares jumped 2.2%. Thanks to Big Blue's heavy weight in the Dow's price-weighted system, this move alone accounted for about one-third of the Dow's total points gain. The stock is clawing its way back from a disappointing earnings report earlier this month. IBM is currently hosting its annual IBM Impact conference in Vegas, and investors seem to enjoy the new products that are on tap. The DreamFace application, for example, underscores IBM's commitment to flexible analysis tools for big-data problems.

As an early barometer for reports to come, Intel's results point to good things for IBM (NYSE: IBM ) on Thursday. Big Blue doesn't touch the consumer market any longer, but it should benefit from the strong server-side environment. Like Intel, IBM has suffered only moderate share-price losses today.

Another big winner was International Business Machines (NYSE: IBM ) , which rose 1.77% after an earnings report, also. IBM beat analysts' earnings per share estimates of $3.78, with profit of $3.91, after less-than-flattering revenue. The way the company managed to do this was by cutting jobs, repurchasing stock, and increasing its margins. But what investors really liked hearing today was that the company was increasing its guidance for full-year operating earnings by $0.20 per share.

y own preference -- and you knew this was coming -- is our third category: investment in productive assets, whether businesses, farms, or real estate. Ideally, these assets should have the ability in inflationary times to deliver output that will retain its purchasing-power value while requiring a minimum of new capital investment. Farms, real estate, and many businesses such as Coca-Cola (KO), IBM (IBM), and our own See's Candy meet that double-barreled test. Certain other companies -- think of our regulated utilities, for example -- fail it because inflation places heavy capital requirements on them. To earn more, their owners must invest more. Even so, these investments will remain superior to nonproductive or currency-based assets./p>

Svanblar/Shutterstock A common antimicrobial agent called triclosan causes liver fibrosis and cancer in laboratory mice through mechanisms also relevant to humans, researchers at the University of California, San Diego School of Medicine have found Triclosan's broad use in consumer goods -- including liquid hand soaps, toothpastes, shampoos, cosmetics, plastics, yoga mats, cutting boards and ice cream scoops -- presents "a very real risk of liver toxicity for people, as it does in mice," said Robert H. Tukey, a UC-San Diego professor and co-author of the study, published Monday in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences. Triclosan, a synthetic, broad-spectrum antibacterial chemical, is coming under fire because of its links to endocrine disruption that could cause infertility, impaired muscle function and now increased cancer risks. It's All Around The UC-San Diego study showed that mice exposed to triclosan for six months (roughly equivalent to 18 human years) had more and larger chemical-induced liver tumors than mice not exposed to the antimicrobial. Researchers believe triclosan may interfere with the protein responsible for detoxifying foreign chemicals in the body, thereby causing liver cells to proliferate and, over time, become cancerous tumors. Studies have found traces of triclosan in 97 percent of breast milk samples from lactating women and in the urine of nearly 75 percent of people tested, according to a statement by UC San Diego Health System. Triclosan is also one of the seven most frequently detected compounds in streams across the United States, the statement says. "We could reduce most human and environmental exposures by eliminating uses of triclosan that are high-volume, but of low-benefit, such as inclusion in liquid hand soaps," said Bruce D. Hammock, professor at University of California, Davis. "Yet we could also for now retain uses shown to have health value -- as in toothpaste, where the amount used is small." Colgate-P

As the world's second-largest tobacco company, Philip Morris International (NYSE: PM) is an ideal sin stock.
And with numbers like these, it's also an ideal way to play global growth...

Philip Morris International Inc. (PM) manufactures and markets cigarettes outside the U.S. in 180 countries. The company麓s plan is to introduce new packaging, new blends and other line extensions. A key driver of the company is the strong market share and the economies of scale. Also, the company has combated unfavorable tax regulations with price increases, showing a good price-elasticity.

Philip Morris International (PM) has risen the most in five months after reporting earnings that easily topped analyst forecasts.
Bloomberg NewsPhilip Morris International reported a profit $1.41 a share, beating forecasts for $1.24, on revenue of $7.8 billion, topping the Street consensus for $7.52 billion. Morgan Stanley’s David Adelman and team explain why investors are so enthusiastic aboutPhilip Morris International’s results:
Our key take-away is that Q2 was considerably stronger than expected and given the absence of any new issues results in less risk to the company full-year outlook…Although F/X was less onerous than our forecast ($0.06 of EPS favorability), the $0.18 quarterly EPS beat was predominantly driven by improved profitability in EEMA and Europe. While elevated spending and a difficult 4Q comparison should result in more moderate second half EPS growth, we continue to expect full-year results to be within PM 6-8% currency neutral range…
Despite the same core issues remaining an ongoing concern Japan, the Philippines, Australia, and Indonesia we were encouraged by the lack of any emerging issues, following the recent pattern of disappointing guidance.
Shares ofPhilip Morris International has gained 1.7% to $86 at 1:08 p.m., while Altria Group (MO) has advanced 1.2% to $42.07, Lorillard (LO) has risen 2.1% to $61.25 and Reynolds American (RAI) is up 1.1% at $58.40.
